When considering the SMP treatment, it is important to have a good understanding of the basics to ensure optimal results and a seamless experience. Starting the process correctly is crucial. Here are some key points to consider:
Regularly moisturizing your scalp before your SMP treatment is extremely beneficial for optimal results. It is recommended to hydrate your scalp once daily, starting two weeks prior to your treatment. This practice helps maintain healthy skin and ensures that your skin is in a hydrated state, which will contribute to better healing of the pigment and aid in pigment retention. It is recommended for all individuals, not just those with dry skin, to follow this moisturizing routine. For clients with dandruff or really dry flaky skin it is advices to use a Moroccan Kessa Exfoliating glove. This glove can be used to gently rub your scalp in small spiral motions, helping to remove dry, dead skin and improve the overall health of your scalp.
2. Try to avoid damaging your scalp in any way before your smp treatment!
Before undergoing the SMP treatment, it is important to avoid damaging the skin. stay out direct sunlight as I cannot work on sunburnt skin so wear a hat as much as possible while outside. additionally ensure that any cuts or abrasions on your scalp have fully healed. If you are unsure about any of these precautions, please contact us before your scheduled treatment for guidance.
After each SMP treatment session, it is important to keep your scalp dry for up to four days. It is normal to experience some redness and itching during this time, which will subside after a few days. If desired, you can wear a soft, loose, and comfortable hat during the healing process to protect your scalp without causing irritation.
During the healing stage of SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation), it is recommended to moisturize your scalp. As the pigment heals under the skin, small scabs may form. After two days, you can begin moisturizing again, as this can aid in the healing process.
It is important to avoid excessive sweating after SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation) treatment, as it can potentially impact the longevity and appearance of the pigment. Sweat contains salt and other substances that can push out the pigment over time, affecting the healing process. To minimize the risk, it is recommended to avoid activities that cause excessive sweating, such as saunas or steam rooms. It is generally advised to refrain from heavy sweating for at least four days after the treatment. However, you can continue with gym and exercise activities as long as you can prevent excessive sweating. If you do sweat excessively, gently blotting your head with a paper towel can help dry it out. It is important to take this into account, as excessive sweating can have a negative effect on the healing process so be mindful.
Thank you for providing the context. After undergoing the SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation) treatment, clients with longer hair can wash their scalp with lukewarm water within 2 hours of the treatment to remove any gunk and pigment lodged between the hairs. However, washing should only be done with water during this time frame, as the healing process has begun. Clients with short hair or buzzed hair will be cleaned before leaving the clinic, and they can wash their hair in the shower with lukewarm water four or five days after the treatment, using warm soapy water for a thorough wash. It is advisable to avoid using strong chemicals such as anti-dandruff shampoos or hair growth products for a few days. These types of products can be reintroduced after 10 days following each procedure.
It is generally safe to cut your hair again after day five using clippers or a shaver following Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) treatment. During this time, it is important to be gentle on the scalp until the 10-day period has passed. By day 10, the pigment applied during the SMP treatment has typically solidified, indicating that the SMP has fully dried on your scalp.
For the long-term maintenance of your Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP), it is advised to avoid swimming pools and hot tubs for up to 30 days after the treatment. This precaution is due to the high chlorine levels in these environments, which could potentially affect the color of the SMP. However, after this initial period, it is generally safe to resume swimming activities.
Regular moisturizing is recommended to keep the scalp hydrated. Additionally, it is crucial to use a high-factor sunscreen, preferably with a factor of 50, to protect the scalp from excessive fading caused by direct sunlight exposure.
